Our development at Aylett’s Green is situated off Coggeshall Road, just outside the village centre, and with properties ready to move into this year, finding your dream house for sale in Kelvedon might be easier than you realised.
The detached, semi-detached and terraced homes and contemporary apartments range in size from 547 – 2,397 sq.ft, and will suit homebuyers across all walks of life, whether you’re a first-time buyer, growing family, or looking to downsize.
That’s why we've come up with our top five reasons why Kelvedon is a great place to call home, whether you’re looking for a 1 bedroom apartment or a 4 bedroom house:
COMMUTABLE COUNTRYSIDE
An ideal commute on an old Roman Centurion route, Kelvedon used to be a perfect commuter town for the Romans heading into London, and it’s still used for commuters into the city 2,000 years later.
Today, Kelvedon is on a direct train line to London Liverpool Street, and with journey times of less than an hour, it’s the ideal commuter location.
With Colchester only 9 miles north, Kelvedon was at the centre of several Roman towns joined by rivers and roads, an ideal situation for a range of continental imports and local fine wares.
On top of that, Kelvedon is only a 44 minute drive from England’s driest resort, Southend-on-Sea, which only sees eight rainy days a month on average! In fact, the entire Essex Sunshine Coast is only a stone’s throw away, making this the perfect location for sunny beach lovers.
ARCHITECTURE AND HISTORY
Kelvedon is perfect for history buffs, with an archaeological dig funded by our North Home Counties team, revealing hidden secrets about the area’s past.
Oxford Archaeology excavated 47 trenches on the land and discovered that Aylett’s Green served as a resting place for travellers and their horses. Among other things, elegant copper and silver alloy vessels and a blue glass bead were discovered, suggesting that the area was often visited or lived in by high status groups.
The artefacts discovered have been removed from the site, cleaned and dated for handing over to Braintree Museum, which is only a 20-minute drive away.
GOOD OLD BRITISH PUB GRUB
Kelvedon is home to some brilliant traditional British pubs like the highly rated The Angel Kelvedon, serving roast dinners and classic fish and chips, as well as The Railway Tavern, which offers a mix of British home comforts and European dishes on a beautiful riverfront location.
However, if you’re after something a little fancier, nearby Rubino Kitchen serves modern British food with Italian influences and was featured in the Michelin Guide.
As well as this, the high street is packed with independent retailers, cosy cafés like Kelvedon Sandwich Bar, and plenty of amenities right on your doorstep.
BEAUTIFUL ARTWORK
As well as the area’s stunning natural beauty, Kelvedon is also soon to be the home of some beautiful local artwork, too.
We recently held a vote for local residents to decide on a sculpture to be added to the new community, and after receiving hundreds of votes, we’ve revealed the winning public artwork to be ‘The Meeting Maple’ design.
The sculpture, designed by renowned artist and sculpture Matthew Lane Sanderson, will be constructed and installed within open space at Aylett’s Green in the not-too-distant future.
