The Benson Community Gardens in Oxfordshire hosted the first of several events this month to celebrate their support for the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) initiative Grow Well Project, thanks to a donation from our Chiltern team.
The Grow Well Project is asking communities to sow their seeds this summer and highlight the wellbeing benefits and positive power of plants.
To mark the initiative in Benson, the local community gardens encouraged residents to decorate signs depicting various plants and herbs at its allotments. The event also unveiled its newest polytunnel, thanks to a donation made our Chiltern region.
Richard and Brigid Hess, who live in Benson village, created the allotments off the town’s St Helen’s Avenue after spending months clearing the land of brambles and weeds and are now able to host events throughout the summer months.
Richard, who founded Benson Community Gardens, said: “We now call Benson our home and are incredibly grateful to all of the support from the community. We want to repay that gratitude by sharing the wonderful beauty and benefits of plants both mentally and environmentally.
“Events such as our sign painting and seed planting events and our ‘Cooking with Herbs’ event which will take place later this month, is our way of contributing to the community and this wouldn’t be possible without the support of Cala Homes.”
With our development, Merlin Gardens, located in the heart of Benson, we are keen to support local initiatives such as this within the community.
Stala Thomson, Sales and Marketing Director at Cala Chiltern, said: “We pride ourselves in supporting initiatives such as the Benson Community Gardens and the polytunnel will help the initiative continue to grow.
“Not only does this initiative support the community but it helps people of all ages immerse themselves back into nature.”
