Timber Frame
The ECO2 home is built using timber frame and low-carbon bricks, meaning it has around 20% less embodied carbon than a typical masonry build.
Our expertly-designed ECO2 Holme brings together a range of carbon and energy-saving technologies under one roof.
The ECO2 Holme has been built using modern methods of construction including timber frame and low-carbon bricks, and features triple glazing and enhanced insulation. The home has PV panels, a PV diverter to heat the water cylinder, an air source heat pump, battery storage, EV charging and smart lighting. There is an aerated shower to reduce water use, wastewater heat recovery, ground floor and first floor under floor heating, and a mechanical ventilation heat-recovery system to ensure air quality within the home meets the requirements of living in a thermally efficient home. Outside, biodiversity enhancing measures include bird and bat boxes, bug hotels, rain gardens, bat bricks, hedgehog highways, a dedicated vegetable patch, and home composting facilities, bringing Cala’s Urban Wildlife Strategy to life.
The ECO2 home is a one-off property (for now) bringing together tried and tested green technology from across our existing developments. It will be available to purchase from Spring 2024 and we hope it will create a blueprint for the roll-out of operationally net-zero-carbon enabled homes across Cala’s business by 2030, with monitoring and customer feedback allowing us to truly test this ‘role-model home’.
Gathering real-life, real-time feedback from the people living in the ECO2 home will help us to create a more detailed route map than ever before, as we work with our suppliers and workforce to scale-up the delivery of sustainable homes across the UK.
The home is one of many projects underway to help us reduce our environmental impact.
