At Cala, we recognise the unique and important role we have to play, not just in building new homes, but in creating sustainable new communities and making a positive contribution to the areas in which we build.
From designing and building modern, energy efficient homes to the millions of pounds we contribute every year towards community facilities and infrastructure, we strive to add social and economic value in everything we do.
At a corporate level, we build national charity partnerships, support and develop our people and ensure a group-wide approach to sensitive and sustainable development. Within our regional businesses, such as South Home Counties, our teams take a collaborative approach to planning, engage with local communities and support grassroots projects and good causes.
Cala’s role within the local communities in which we build starts as soon as we buy a piece of land. We take into consideration the needs of local communities, local planning authorities and future homeowners to create the right development solution for the local area. We engage early and give local communities the chance to provide feedback on our development proposals through public consultation programmes.
We also build long-term partnerships during the life of our developments, including school outreach programmes and support for local community events, initiatives and charities.
At our new site in Godalming, Surrey, we are providing a community hall, community gardens and several play areas. There is also a 30 acre area of green open space around a 2.4km pathway, now known as Eashing Fields.
Our new development in Lancing in West Sussex, boasts a 70 acre country park, complete with extensive walking and cycling routes, attractive watercourses and direct access to the South Downs National Park. There will also be a new route to nearby Shoreham, avoiding the A27. A neighbourhood centre will host a range of community facilities and we have also provided funding towards a new primary school.
At our Amlets Place development in Cranleigh, residents can take advantage of a shared orchard, community allotments and play areas. The allotments are due to be gifted to the Parish Council next month.
Every new Cala development is an opportunity to make a positive impact on the communities in which we build, both in terms of financial contributions locally, opening up public open space and creating facilities on our sites for the whole communities to enjoy now and in the future.
