In line with the Section 106 agreement with Hart District Council and Hampshire County Council, Cala Homes’ community contributions are now coming to fruition.
The financial contributions include over £400,000 to be spent on supporting secondary education in the area, specifically towards the creation of additional capacity at schools serving the development. A £360,000 contribution was made to the brand-new, multi-million pound Hart Leisure Centre situated less than 20 minutes from the site, as well as £61,000 to Riseley Parish Council to make improvements to the Riseley Recreation Ground. In addition, two brand new bus shelters will be installed on Odiham Road to benefit the growing community and the development includes a public space with a play area.
Cala Homes has also created an off-site Suitable Alternative Natural Greenspace (SANG) on the edge of Wellington Country Park, for both new and existing residents to enjoy. Known as Wellesley Water Meadow, this tranquil spot beside the River Whitewater comprises large meadows with stunning views of the surrounding countryside, a 2.3km circular walk on both surfaced and unsurfaced paths, and a boardwalk.
Cala Homes began building its Dukes Meadow development in 2018 and since then has made a number of contributions to the local and wider community, including through its Community Bursary scheme. One charity to benefit from a £1,000 donation was The CycleSmart Foundation, a Reading-based organisation that provides an educational programme to highlight the need for helmet use and safer cycling practice. Cala’s funding was used to purchase vital helmets for their cycling proficiency programme which benefitted children from schools in the local area.
Laura Powell, Planning Manager for Cala Homes Thames, said: “At Cala, we take pride in being able to leave a lasting legacy in the communities in which we build. As well as creating new homes, we also want to make a difference to villages such as Riseley by enhancing infrastructure, education and amenities.
“The contributions that are now coming to fruition will undoubtedly improve many facilities for local residents and the wider community and will add long-term value to the area.”
