Rowena Devas, an artist from Aylesbury and a member of Buckinghamshire Art Society, scooped the grand prize of £250 voucher as well as seeing her artwork featured in prime position within the dining room of the Nessvale showhome at our popular Primrose Crescent development in Wingrave.
The competition, launched to mark the showhome launch at Primrose Crescent, saw artists from Buckinghamshire Art Society, which currently has about 100 members, submit their interpretation of life in Buckinghamshire and the surrounding community, whilst matching existing aesthetics of our showhome, designed by Blocc Interiors.
Rowena’s winning artwork entitled Fast Forward is a large acrylic painting set on deep canvas, with inspiration for the piece being drawn from village life in Buckinghamshire as well as the broad landscape that is surrounded by the Chiltern Hills.
Rowena said, “It was a real pleasure for me to see my painting displayed in the Cala showhome.
“Buckinghamshire is a wonderful place to live and I wanted to bring a sense of the joy of life into the show home by incorporating the image of a road leading directly into the painting to create positive thoughts for the future ahead.
“Thank you to Cala for hosting this competition and I look forward to buying something really special with the vouchers.”
We receive hundreds of visitors to its showhomes each year, ensuring plenty of eyes will be on her artwork.
Sharon Dulai, Marketing Manager for our Chiltern region, who helped judge the competition said, “The artwork across all submissions was of an extremely high level, making it very difficult to judge, however Rowena’s artwork perfectly captured the feel of the area and we were bowled over. We love her bold use of colour and there is certainly a sense of movement and energy in her piece. This, combined with the artists’ inspiration of village life and the Chiltern Hills is really thought-provoking and exciting.”
Marian Hyland at Buckinghamshire Art Society added: “We were really excited to partner with Cala on this exciting art project and show off the incredible work our artists in Buckinghamshire can produce. It was refreshing to be given a brief that allows the artists to use creative interpretation in a real life setting and create art which complements and matches the current showhome’s style and character.”
Pat Nightingale, Sales Director at Blocc Interiors, said, “We wanted the artwork to match the current look of the showhome and decided that the colour pallet for the competition should include blues, ranging from muted blues to navy with touches of taupe, grey and white.
“Rowena styling in her piece ties in with the overall style of the showhome, which is classic contemporary, with opulent touches. The Nessvale takes inspiration from the surrounding area, so we were very excited to receive submissions and see how these talented artists captured the local area in their art.”
