Last year our team donated £10,000 to Albion in the Community, the official charity for Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club.
For more than 30 years the charity has been using the power of football to inspire, engage and fight inequality in the local community.
The donation has funded approximately 1,000 attendances at the charity’s weekly inclusive football sessions and holiday time disability football camps. A team of qualified community coaches deliver the weekly inclusive football sessions, which are attended by roughly 40 people.
Meanwhile, the holiday camps run for one or two days in each of the holiday breaks across the year and are attended by 30 to 40 people. The sessions, which take place in Brighton at the University of Sussex AstroTurf pitch in Falmer, and at the Community Pitch at Brighton & Hove Albion’s Elite Performance Centre in Lancing, offer a lifeline to people with a physical or learning disability in the community.
Children and adults from across Sussex attend the sessions, and thanks to our South Home Counties team, the charity has been able to fund a year’s worth of training.
Matt Dorn, Chief Executive at Albion in the Community, said: “For 30 years, Albion in the Community has been using the power of football to fight inequality in the local area.
“Thanks to the donation by Cala, we have been able to continue providing opportunities for people with a physical or learning disability to get active and have access to the sport they love in a setting appropriate to their needs.
“We couldn’t do the work we do if it wasn’t for the generous donations we receive. Whether it’s £10,000 or £1, every donation makes a difference.”
Lynnette Quintin, Sales Director at Cala South Home Counties, said: “Making a difference in the communities in which we build is so important to us at Cala, so we’re thrilled to have made this donation to Albion in the Community and see it being put to such great use.
“The work the team there does is outstanding and we’re proud to support them with their inclusive football sessions.”
