Fiona and Tim have embraced a new chapter in their lives since retiring, by moving into one of our spacious but easy to manage properties within our Craibstone development in Aberdeen.

After years of rural living in a large, mid-20th-century house with extensive grounds, the couple were seeking a more manageable, low-maintenance home to enjoy their retirement years. The benefits that come with a new build home, along with an added incentive of covering the LBTT (Land and Buildings Transaction Tax), Fiona and Tim moved into their stress-free Cala home.

After receiving one of our leaflets about CraibstoneEstate, the couple visited our development and immediately knew they’d found the perfect place to call home - set on the edge of Aberdeen amidst mature woodlands and greenery, with outstanding connectivity to the city.

Fiona said: "Finding a home that offered both comfort and convenience was a priority for us as we planned for the future."

"The semi-rural location at Craibstone was exactly what we were looking for. We have two dogs and a cat, so the nearby woodland walks are perfect for us. The development has the best of both worlds—peaceful surroundings and excellent transport links to Aberdeen and beyond."

The couple chose the Kennedy housetype, a spacious five-bedroom home that perfectly fits their needs.

Fiona said: "We viewed six different housetypes, but the Kennedy was the one that offered everything we wanted. The open-plan kitchen, dining and family area is our favourite space—light, airy, and perfect for entertaining. It’s also very warm, which will be ideal during the winter."

Fiona and Tim see their new house as their forever home, a space where they can comfortably relax, without the worry of repairs or endless maintenance. This is further enhanced by the surrounding grounds and woodland being maintained by a factor for a very reasonable annual fee.

“Our new home has been a dream—minimal maintenance so far, and the on-site team have been so helpful. The house itself is stunning inside and out, with so much natural light and space.

We were lucky enough to reserve early, which allowed us to make personal touches like upgrading the kitchen, flooring and even creating a dressing room. The house and garden will be so much easier to look after, giving us more leisure time.  We’ve even bought an electric car, which fits perfectly with the home’s ready-for-charging setup."

These are just some of the many reasons to buy a new build home with Cala.

The couple’s plot also stood out for its natural beauty and privacy. The front view opens out to grass, sky, and trees, and the very private back garden gets sun from late morning to evening. One of the key features they also love is the feature stone wall around the garden.

The new homeowners are also enjoying the energy-efficient and cost-effective benefits. Fiona added: "While it’s too soon to fully measure the impact, we’ve already noticed that the house stays very warm, which is a big plus point for us.

"We couldn’t be happier with our decision to buy our home. The combination of location, design, and the overall quality of the house made it the perfect choice for us."

Located in Bucksburn, Craibstone Estate South offers the best of both worlds with the semi-rural surroundings of Aberdeenshire, yet with the city centre and beyond within easy reach. Speak with our sales team to find out more or visit us today.
